Smart Mobility

Smart Mobility

The use of IT-systems in traffic is called Smart Mobility. The increasing vehicles on the road makes it necessary to better manage and monitor traffic flows. Smart and connected systems offers new possibilities and applications for safe and efficient traffic flow, while minimizing CO2 emissions and improving air quality.

Already a lot of research is done for improving the flow in cities. By making traffic lights smarter and focusing on the flow of trucks. Speed fluctuations for trucks give a lot of CO2 emissions and trucks have a slow acceleration, which is bad for the traffic flow. By focusing on leading trucks as fast as possible through the city, optimal flow is created.

For us, Smart Mobility means using your mobility in a smart way. We use technology for making ourselves smarter. In our case we talk about car drivers. When using smart mobility in your car, you will be driving in a constant speed, adjusting your speed on other road users.

When you adjust more, there is less breaking and accelerating, so less fluctuations in speed, which improves the traffic flow. This leads to more safety on the road, less car accidents, but also fuel saving, less CO2 emissions, and more comfortable and stress-free driving.

Predictive Cruise Control

This project is in cooperation with ‘Provincie Overijssel’. Predictive Cruise Control (PCC) enables car drivers to drive cooperatively on provincial roads through data exchange about current speeds and disruptions on the road. In-car driving support is used and for a wide adaptation of technology, initially the smartphone is used. Read more on our project page.
